Tips for Back massage
Performing any therapeutic and advanced back massage can require a lot of professional training. However, everyone can enjoy a relaxing and effective massage even without proper training. There are some basic massage techniques that can go a long way in giving you a great massage. Some important tips for a great back massage are as follows.
1. Choose a suitable and comfortable place
Using a massage table will give you the best access to anyone's back. It is also made for a high level of comfort and provides proper alignment for your spine. However, there are a few alternatives you can look at in case there is no table available. For example, you can try using the floor, bed or sofa.
2. Pour massage oil into your palms
You need to start by using one teaspoon, roughly the size of a quarter. You can also rub it between your hands before actually applying it to the person. There are certain good oils such as grape seed oil, coconut oil, almond oil and jojoba oil.
3. Rub the oil all around
The technique of spreading oil around is called effleurage and it means light rubbing. You can use sliding moves in long or sometimes even strokes. Also use your whole hands and start the massage in an upward motion.
4. Use the Petrissage technique
The Petrissage technique is a technique that uses a short ad circular stroke by applying more pressure compared to effleurage. You can also think of it as a kneading technique that can use both pressing and rolling to improve a deeper level of circulation. This technique can also use the fingertips, palm and knuckles.
5. You can also use the muscle lifting technique
To do this, you can close your fingers and also extend your thumb. You need to apply all the pressure with a lifting and twisting motion. Also, constantly alternate your hands in a motion that can be described as a windshield wiper.
6. Use quality turns
This means you have to go back and get back on the person's side. Also reach around your far hip with one hand that rests on your near hip. You can also pull one hand towards you and push the other hand away using a smooth motion.
