Bottom line, the sun is not our enemy and it is actually our friend because without it the life of all living creatures including humans would not exist. It is not the sun that is to blame for the skin cancer problem because the sun has not changed and the ozone layer that protects us from harmful radiation from the sun's rays is only a problem over the uninhabited Antarctica. So what causes so many skin cancers?

Cancer can develop anywhere on the body where there has been irritation, and while excessive sunburn can cause irritation and spots, there are other factors that cause these spots to grow. What has changed in the last few years is our diet and it is our poor diet that contributes to skin cancer, including melanomas.

We need the sun every day because the sun has amazing healing powers. A few minutes of daily exposure to the sun on our bare skin cures cancer rather than causing it. We get important vitamin D from the sun, which helps us absorb nutrients from the food we eat, especially calcium, which is important for cancer patients. It also helps us maintain the health of our bones and teeth. Other ways to get the recommended daily intake of vitamin D are from foods such as oily fish and, to a lesser extent, egg yolk and meats such as liver. In some places, the milk has been fortified with vitamin D.

While excessive exposure to the sun's rays can be harmful, especially for those with fair skin, 10 to 15 minutes of sunlight on our face, arms, or legs each day has amazing healing properties. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with skin cancer or melanoma, it's important to get some sunlight on your bare skin every day. This will help strengthen the immune system and allow the body to fight and cut cancer.

Conventional skin cancer treatment usually focuses on the symptom of the problem, which is the cancerous growth.
